Falling into Freedom is what I call a autobiographical spiritual adventure. It is a nine year journey that follows my path from the edge of a cliff in Big Sur, CA, to a silent meditation center in an old monastery in England.
This book is about how, in 1989 at the age of 38, I found myself standing on the edge of a 300-foot cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean asking myself was this the end?
The answer required a willingness to recognize that my life wasn’t working. I had flunked out of high school, carried a deep sadness about the countless human beings I’d killed in an unpopular war. How I numbed that sadness with drugs. Then, with two failed marriages, I realized that I seemed incapable of having positive intimate relationships. And now I was jobless because the last company I worked for when bankrupt. Standing on that cliff’s edge, I realized that my life was no longer working. I believe that each of us, including myself, wants and deserves to be happy, and discover our own path towards wisdom and freedom.
Falling into Freedom tells the crazy revealing adventure of a 9-year journey where I uncovered five principles that helped me to find not only happiness but personal freedom.
